OPPD customers could save $200 million from change at Fort Calhoun

Ratepayers could save up to $200 million if the Omaha Public Power District board adopts a new, more aggressive approach to decommissioning the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station.

This alternative proposal would deconstruct the remnants of the power plant and remove radioactive materials from the site in as little as 10 years — up to 50 years sooner than expected.
