8 OPPD candidates disagree on how fast district should move toward renewables

An OPPD board discussion next week is expected to include revisiting some long-term goals for the district’s energy mix between fossil fuels and other, cleaner sources.

How far and fast each candidate wants OPPD management to go in adopting a larger portfolio of wind, solar and other alternative energy sources is a key point of separation between the candidates in Subdivisions 1, 6, 7 and 8.

All eight support the utility’s march toward more renewable energy, especially while it remains economically competitive with coal and natural gas. But four of the candidates discussed accelerated expansion of renewables.
